Cheat Fixed + New High Score Possible!
Player 'arkady' found a cheat to the game and he was honest enough to report it and help us fix it. Unfortunately the cheat resulted in some entries to the "Hall of Fame" being deleted, so we had to use some old scores to fill up the list. The top 3 positions were rescued and are correct. This work resulted in us finding an elusive bug. Some players reported of an error when their score passed 2 billion. We couldn't find the problem in the code, but now it turns out that the database was the cause of the problem. This has now been fixed so we hope to see some 2 billion+ scores on the list soon!
We also changed the Shipyard so that it is easier to buy many extra cargo bays. For example you can now select to buy 500 new cargo bays all at once instead of having to buy 25 cargo bays 20 times.
The missing closing CENTER tag bug reported by L.T. is also fixed.

Sorry about that. Was a small bug in the updated system. It is fixed now.
Earth bank and Load shark don't work when using Firefox, they just pop up and close immediately, although the buy/sell windows work just fine.

Mozilla on Fedora Core 4, you cannot visit the loan shark without either the window closing as soon as it opens or after repeated attempts the entire browser crashes.
I'm not sure if this is a Mozilla issue or some JavaScript problem (could be both).

This is a problem with Mozilla/Firefox and their lacking support for the OnBlur javascript function. The javascript is written so that when the Bank window is no longer in focus it is closed so that you can't have access to the bank as you travel to another planet. I haven't found a workaround yet.

I still have problems with my score not being recorded if I previously played another game. The workaround seems to be to close all but the original Play RebelTrader window after completing a game. Heck, just to be safe, I close that one too and start totally fresh

A possible solution to the loanshark problem.
Instead of using JavaScript to keep the window from being accessed on other planets. Why not do a server side check when the loanshark script is submitted. If the player is on the wrong planet don't do anything. Javascript can always be defeated since it is run on the client side anyway. So this will make the game less likely for cheating to happen.

Thanks for the fun game. It's been a long while since I stopped by. arkady's honesty in reporting a cheat compells me to come clean. I got the high score a few years ago by using a scripted client and didn't follow the Response.Redirect that terminates the game. I figured nobody would reach $2B through normal means, but I have to hand it to rpucci he did it.
Blackbeard is a fraud. But you could always leave him on the leader board for old times' sake ;).
Just want to point out that the Earth bank and Loan shark still don't work when using Firefox.
They just pop up and close immediately, although the buy/sell windows work just fine.
Actually, bank and loan shark -do- work under Firefox, they just work...poorly. Click on the link enough time, and they'll stay up and let you borrow (a key game move that you can't score reliably without) and save (much less important, IMO, though if you could get 40M early and bank some of it, it would be worthwhile).
That said, the game has at least one more cheatable (which is also annoying in play) bug. If you hit back from the star map, or doubleclick on warp, you always go to earth -- letting you, with a good run, get to 1000 cargo, and then self-travel to earth for the remainder of the game, letting you bank your entire currently unusued roll. as you play. Moreover, on the bug level, once you do this once, on purpose or accidentally, you have to do it forever after -- the star map won't work any more, so you have to self-jump for the rest of the game. Since there's no way to cancel a star jump (really annoying when you realize after hitting warp that you forgot to fill up your empty cargo with metal), there's a good way to do it accidentally, as is just double-clicking on warp. Either way, you're stuck on Earth for the rest of the game -- which while it's cheat-awesome if you have an insanely good start, is a gamekiller if you haven't bought up your holds first, all for a single misclick.

Also, another bug: Sometimes, I get to the end of the game, and rather than giving me a "you retire ..." page, the game just starts over with no intermediate prompt.
I'm not sure -why- this happens; there doesn't seem to be triggering user input. Regardless, it -always- seems to happen at the point a game would normally end -- instead of ending, you're back with 5000 credits on Earth.
Regardless, -usually-, this isn't a huge deal. OTOH, I just lost a 700+ million game that way. :(

^^That has also happened to me; Two clicks left with 100,000,000 credits. Then... Bam!... You're back on Earth with 30 clicks and only 5,000 credits. Gutting!
Otherwise an enjoyable game. Thanks for your effort. Sort out the glitches and we've a classic on our hands. ;D
Loan shark is broken in both Firefox 3.0.7 and IE7 - just closes shortly after opening.
